\"logo\"\"BarnEcumenism has a long history in Stamford.\u00a0 While all the churches are proud of their own different traditions and forms of worship, we recognise that what unites us is greater than any differences in doctrine: we all believe Jesus, born of the virgin Mary, died on the cross to save us from our sins and reconcile us to God.\u00a0 He was resurrected on the first Easter Sunday as a sign that all who accept him as Lord and Saviour will have eternal life with God in heaven.\u00a0 The Holy Spirit came at Pentecost to be our helper on Earth.\u00a0 We all sing many of the same hymns, we generally celebrate holy communion, we all accept the authority of the Bible.<\/p>\n

So there have been many events and initiatives involving a number of different churches for the last 100 years. Our precursors were the Stamford and District Free Church Federal Council (1943) which became the Stamford Council of Churches (1950s), then Stamford & District Churches Together.<\/p>\n

The joint Good Friday procession of witness through the town started in the 1970s.\u00a0 Evergreen Trust began in 2005, the Schools Festival in 2007, Stamford Street Pastors in 2011, Foodbank in\u00a0July 2012, Household Essentials in August 2016..<\/p>\n
